Although many feel that President Obama's cancellation of the Constellation Program has destroyed NASA and America's prestige in space exploration the move will actually open up a new era for NASA and Privateering Space Companies.
If the Constellation Program would have gone forward NASA would have only created a launch and delivery system to replace the Space Shuttle.
Instead America now has two systems by which to expand it's space infrastructure. Privateering companies like SpaceX and STRATOLAUNCH - Systems will be used to cost effectively provide cargo missions, crew replacement missions and private citizen missions into outer space.
NASA is a government entity that can only send trained astronauts into space.
But now with SpaceX and other companies like SpaceX taking up the reigns of the Wagon Train into Space to perform basically the same role of NASA but at a cheaper price as well as being free of the political chopping block, NASA is now able to concentrate on developing VLEO (Very Low Earth Orbit) transport systems that will create new jobs and manufacturing processes as NASA leads the way in Intercontinental passenger and cargo services that will be able to deliver cargo and passengers to areas of the world alot faster than the current mode of transportation is able to provide.
What is happening with NASA is great because NASA will most likely become a world leader in VLEO Transport around the world that will add more than enough jobs to its infrastructure as well as money to continue to provide revenue to NASA that will satisfy the voter in their taxes not going towards what they view as meaningless missions.
NASA would still be considered a government facility but would receive money for government launch of satellites both civilian and commercial with an emphasis being placed upon creating Avery Aeronautics NASA's branch in creating transportation for everyday citizen use.
